Scotty Baitcaster/ Spinning Rod Holder Black with 244 Flush Deck Mount

Product Description

Holds a bait caster reel in a cushioned cradle. A slot in the front of the rod holder allows for a spinning reel to be securely held in position. The rod holder design has a side mounted flange, which leaves the bottom open. This allows for the rod holder to accommodate trigger grips. Pistol grip rod butts easily clear the sides of the rod holder for quick rod retrieval. Rod can be secured in holder with a soft latching strap which snaps over the top. No. 244 Flush Deck Mount included.

Customer Reviews

This holder works great for me. It holds my fishing rod very securely. I use this holder for fishing from my kayak. I can keep my hands on the paddle and reach the rod quickly and easily with this holder.
This holder has a rubber strap to lock in your rod if you want. I personally don't use that feature much since the holder does a very good job of securing the rod with gravity alone. Also, by not using the strap, I can take the rod out quickly if a fish hits the line.
I looked at other holders, and while some were less expensive, they all seemed inferior to this one.
I got a different base (the 241 Mount, see link at bottom of this review) later to avoid the obvious large hole I would have to drill (not just for the screws but the shaft also).
The left-right rotating neck feature is nice to position the holder just how you want it. I don't change it much once I get it set, but it's invaluable to get it into the right initial position. It stays put by friction alone, but it is very secure.
The twist for up-down, locks very securely with a thumb wheel. Again, I don't change it much once I get it set, but it's invaluable.
Regarding my setup, I didn't want to drill holes in my kayak, so I rigged up a system. I loaded a picture of my system to the "customer images". It's the yellow kayak. This system is basically the holder mounted to a board and then bungee strapped to my kayak. The bungee straps were the default straps already on my kayak. The board I chose was a "plastic" board for outdoor decking applications sold at my local home store. It was strong and waterproof.
While this setup enables flexibility of positioning and no holes, it is slightly less solid than drilling into the 'yak. If you're catching huge lunkers that strike super hard maybe this bungee setup won't work for you. I have caught some pretty big fish that have hit hard though, so maybe getting carried away isn't needed. For me this bungee setup worked well because I was fishing casually and I could move or eliminate it entirely. For example, a day without fishing or when the kayak is on the car racks.
I would definitely buy this holder again, it has worked really well for me.

Scotty Side Deck Mounting Bracket Black

I use a fishing model kayak which has two flush mounted rod holders behind the cockpit. They are hard to reach so i bought one of these Scotty rod holders and installed it on the front of my cockpit. This thing is worth gold!I really couldnt fish without it! The best part is that it is removable from its mount when i am finished fishing and has a cap to keep water out of the opening where you "install " it .It easily holds any of my spinning rods and is invaluable when moving from one fishing area to another. You just put your rod in it and paddle on! Finally, the quality of this product is very high.
I am thinking about installing a second one on the other side of the front of my yak so I can more easily carry and use two rods when fishing.
