Customer Reviews

I previously had one of those 'multi-piece' cleaning rods that I picked up on the cheap at a Wal-Mart a long time ago. It literally just snapped in half from the flex of trying to push a tight patch down the barrel of a .22 LR rifle. I came on here, strapped for cash, to look for a better rod. I could have bought a carbon-fiber Tipton rod, which is no doubt the superior product, albeit at twice as much money. So I settled on the good price and free shipping.
The rod is made of steel, and is very strong. There's no way this thing will ever suffer damage from me laying down all the force a human body can muster on it. It also has a T-shaped handle, which I prefer for its handling characteristics, and pretty good ball bearings. Be sure to drop a bit of oil down into them through the slot in the handle though, it makes a difference.
The reason I give this four stars is because the rod's coating does in fact chip off with time. After aggressively cleaning three rifles that I was unable to take care of because of my cheap aluminum rod's failure, a bit of the coating had chipped off near the tip by the threads. I don't really care about this anyway; if you clean carefully you shouldn't do any damage to your bore. One day I'll get a carbon fiber rod and will keep this one as a backup, or lend it to a friend.

It's a coated steel one piece design cleaning rod. I have used it repeatedly on my AR 15 rifle and it never gets bent out of shape. The surface coating seems to be very resistant to wear when exposed repeatedly to oil and solvents. This cleaning rod is a less expensive alternative to carbon fiber cleaning rods.
